On Sunday 22 October Digby Fire Brigade held its CFA Open Day, inviting members of the brigade and local community to the station for a barbecue, social get-together and to discuss preparations for the upcoming fire season.

To make the day even more significant, the brigade were grateful recipients of a HeartStart defibrillator, generously donated by the National Red Balloon Day Organisation.
Digby Fire Station is centrally located within District 4 and hosts numerous training courses and meetings for CFA and other agencies, so the equipment is strategically positioned to help deal with medical emergencies in the local area if required.
“We hope we never need to use it, but it’s great to know it’s there if we do,” said Captain Rex Morris.
Coincidentally, the brigade had been seriously considering fundraising to purchase a defibrillator after several members recently attended First Aid training.
“We realised how important it would be to have a defibrillator in our area, considering the closest ambulance is at least 30 minutes away,” said brigade Secretary Barb Botterill. “We are most appreciative of this wonderful donation to our brigade and community.”

The National Red Balloon Day raised $3918.39 in Victoria this year.
