Dingos say thanks to CFA members

Bunyip Fire Brigade volunteers Lieutenants John Legione and Russell Pendlebury and Rosebud Firefighter Paul Jones had an interesting visit to Gumbuya Park when they dropped off an old, unused canvas hose.

The visit was organised by Paul Jones, and he accompanied the Bunyip brigade volunteers.

When they arrived they were greeted by two one-year-old dingos.

Gumbuya World Education Manager Tony Davis said, "Keeping the animals, birds and reptiles happy and healthy is the number one priority for Gumbuya World’s rangers. One of the ways they do this is with enrichment programs.

“Enrichment tools encourage the animals to use their senses in ways they would in the wild, and stimulates their natural behaviours to forage, dig, chew, climb and communicate."

Fire hose is perfect for making browse feeders and puzzle feeders which the Gumbuya World rangers will stuff with food for the animals to find and eat. The feeders are designed to make the presentation of the food challenging, as opposed to rangers simply handing the animals their food.

"The fire hose will be used with all the animals living at Gumbuya World," continued Tony. "The great thing about fire hose is that it’s so strong. Not even the needle sharp teeth of the Tiger Quolls or Tasmanian Devil can break through it.

“Gumbuya World sends huge thanks the local firefighters from District 8 and the Bunyip Fire Brigade who came by to donate ex CFA fire hose.”
