District 5's original take on Footy Finals Fever

As AFL players go into battle to claim the coveted Grand Final Cup, CFA is encouraging operational volunteers to check their own battle equipment in the lead-up to the summer season.

District 5 Acting Operations Manager Lachlan Redman and Finance Officer Erin Collier launched the “Footy Finals Fit-Out” initiative, which urges CFA operational volunteers to check their Personal Protective Clothing (PPC) as part of preparation for their busiest season.

The campaign also reminds volunteers to thoroughly check that all items of their turnout gear are accounted for and “ready to go”.

Mr Redman said it’s important that our members are fully equipped with their PPC to ensure they are protected from a range of hazardous environments.

“We’re using footy finals fever as a timely reminder to our volunteers to pull all their gear out and check it over for any damage, and to ensure they have all the equipment they need to protect themselves and others, as they fight fires and other incidents,” Mr Redman said.

“By checking your PPC before the summer season, you’ll allow your district to plan ahead by ordering any replacements or missing equipment in a timely fashion before summer.

“I encourage all other brigades to take some time away from watching finals games to make sure their district is well-prepared for some very different and often dangerous battles against fire fronts.

“We’re bracing for a long, hot and dry summer season, so being prepared will help protect communities which may come under threat of bushfires.

Members from District 5 who require replacement items are encouraged to contact Headquarters. One bulk order will be processed early each week and will be distributed accordingly.
