Staff recently participated in the 2016 Victoria Against Violence (VAV) campaign by hosting an ‘orange morning tea’ at the Swan Hill, Kerang and Bendigo offices.
The VAV campaign gives the whole Victorian community a voice, inviting individuals, families, organisations, businesses, students and all levels of government to stand together to prevent family violence and promote gender equality.
Gender inequality is internationally recognised as a key underpinning driver of violence against women and continues to affect women at all stages and in all areas of their lives.
The morning tea events were able to be held thanks to the kind generosity of Women’s Health Loddon Mallee, a non-government organisation that works in partnership to improve the status of women’s health in the Loddon Mallee Region.
Orange is the colour designated by the UN Secretary–General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign. As a bright and optimistic colour, orange represents a future free from violence against women and girls.
The VAV campaign, now in its second year, is a community-based education and awareness initiative that aims to engage and educate the community about the link between family violence and gender inequality.
The campaign commenced on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and concluded on Saturday, which was International Human Rights Day.
