The competition heats up as CFA members continue to make vital donations across the state.

At the half way point of last year’s challenge, CFA had registered 443 donations. It is amazing to see that you have had a 37% increase in donations when compared to last year.

For some CFA members donating is a regular occurrence but for Cultural Diversity Engagement Officer Nada El-Masri this year was her first.

“This is my first time donating blood, but I have been keeping a close eye on our members who have and continued to donate which is absolutely amazing," Nada said..

“This year I made the decision to really get around to it and donate. We can save lives by donating blood without the sweat, without the fire and without the smoke and we can do this from extending one of our arms out and sitting on a comfy chair.”

CFA members have made an enormous contribution this year with over 600 donations being made in the last 6 weeks. This adds up to over 1800 lives saved already.

Nada made her first donation alongside Keysborough Brigade Community Safety Coordinator Emmanuel Vella.

“I have been donating for a while now, and really gain satisfaction knowing I am helping someone who’s in need.

“I’d encourage everyone who is able to, to donate,” Emmanuel added. “Red cross often have to advertise and ask for donations as they become short, especially over the winter months.

“If you can make the time to donate, do it! You never know when you might need it back.”

To find out more information about donating head to the Red Cross website, you can also view the Emergency Services Blood Challenge results tally here.

It's important that every donor makes their donation count…
