East Gippsland Field Days Bairnsdale

East Gippsland Field Days was held at Bairnsdale Aerodrome on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April 2016.

Bairnsdale Fire Brigade hosted the event with help from the community safety team from South East Region.

Friday was a little quiet and having a little drop of rain didn't encourage the crowd to come and have a look and chat.

The community education trailer was set up alongside our stands to promote home fire safety and rural numbering. There were some small technical issues with the training prop, but this was promptly sorted out thanks to the expertise of the volunteers.

Saturday was not only a better day weatherwise but also much busier. A lot of people approached the stand, watched the demonstrations and asking lots of questions. Each demonstration attracted more than 30 people.

Lakes Entrance Fire Brigade assisted Bairnsdale brigade with the live demonstrations on Saturday. Bairnsdale had the opportunity to become familiar with and use Lakes Entrance Brigade's new pumper.

Lindenow Fire Brigade members were also present for the two days, primarily for fire protection. However, they were keen to be included in all the activities as well.

Captain Koala got up to his usual mischievous behaviours seeing a trail of children, adults and destruction following behind him (cheeky little monkey).

The two days were a great success and a fantastic way to showcase the skills and abilities of everyone who participated.

Once again thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s Field Days.
