Easter Saturday saw Beechworth’s Ford Street become a sea of red and white, the result of a CFA extravaganza which was the brainchild of Beechworth Urban Brigade member Ian McVea.
Ian, who is also the chairman of the annual Golden Horseshoes Festival, said he wanted to fill all the main streets of Beechworth with activities and displays to make it a true family day out.
“I had some assistance from Steve Doig of Oxley Flats Brigade in organising and locating some of the trucks on display, and he did a great job,” said Ian.
“Steve even managed to get a ‘58 Willys Tanker”
The event was a fantastic way for locals to check out fire trucks from not only Beechworth but surrounding townships. It was also a great chance for tourists to see up close just what is involved when it comes to fire protection for rural areas.
One of the highlights of the display was the CFA Mobile Education Bus. Over 1000 people climbed on board, giving them a chance to chat with CFA about how to make their home and surrounds fire safe.
During the day the crowd was also entertained on the main stage by The Red Austins (a band made up of CFA members) as well as April and The Captain Koala and Friends Show.
The day concluded with the main parade down Ford Street with CFA bringing up the rear. There were a few sneaky shots at the crowd with the monitors on the front of a couple of the tankers, much to the delight of the children.
The Golden Horseshoes Committee would like to thank all the CFA members who participated on the day.
