Rebekah Tuckwell joined CFA six years ago at Edithvale Fire Brigade. She has recently taken on the role of Deputy Group Officer (DGO) for South East Group and is about to start her first term.

The Deputy Group Officer is responsible for the Community Safety portfolio. This will allow Rebekah to play an active role in coordinating the community safety efforts and also provide an opportunity to play a more senior role in the operational aspects of the group and District more broadly.

Rebekah loves her role as a volunteer and her decision to join was because of her own confronting incident with fire. When she was 17 years old, Rebekah suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 18 per cent of her body.

I have a healthy respect and fear for fire and am acutely aware of the effect it has on people’s lives, short and long term. So, if I can help in any way to reduce or remove that risk for someone else, I will try my best to do so”, Rebekah said.

The people, both in the community and within CFA, are what Rebekah enjoys most about CFA.

There so many amazing people you come into contact with each who have their own story, goals and dreams but all come together for one amazing purpose that is bigger than any of them”, Rebekah said.

“I am excited about this wonderful opportunity to learn from some amazing leaders within my Group and am following the footsteps of an incredible female leader in CFA being only the second female DGO in our Group’s history," Rebekah said.
