The Casterton Secondary College, CFA and Casterton Fire Brigade have again formed a partnership to deliver a program to VCAL students.
The 18-week program will run over terms 2 and 3. Students will learn all aspects of fire suppression, search and rescue.
In its second year, the program has seen an increase in the students participating in the course to twelve. CFA qualified instructors and Casterton Fire Brigade members will host the course at the Casterton Fire Station and the Noss Road Running Track.
Casterton Secondary College Educational Leader Jo McKenzie said, “Our school is only too pleased to participate in this partnership. It gives students the opportunity to explore career options and gain life skills. It addresses the Personal Development Skills and Work Related Skills outcomes of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.
“Last year’s students really enjoyed the hands on nature of the program and in particular working with the local CFA members. Casterton Secondary College appreciates the opportunity for our students to become involved in a community organization with the hope that in the future they will further their involvement, skills and knowledge by becoming a CFA volunteer.”
Partnerships between schools and CFA are currently formed to support the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program and are funded by the Office for Youth.
