Melbourne Water will conduct an emergency response exercise to test the incident procedures at the Silvan Water Treatment Plant on Stoneyford Road, Silvan on 24 May 2015.

Local CFA, police and other emergency services will be involved in the exercise to give all personnel a chance to practice their training and respond to a simulated incident using all equipment and vehicles, including lights and sirens.
Melbourne Water Manager Water Supply, Michelle Riley, said exercises like this were crucial for protecting essential assets and services.
"Silvan Water Treatment Plant can supply up to 80 percent of Melbourne’s drinking water at any one time," said Ms Riley.
"Because of the vital role it plays in our water supply system, it’s important to ensure its ongoing protection and safe working practices.
"This exercise allows both plant staff and emergency response crews to practise and fine tune emergency procedures to keep the community and our water supply safe," Ms Riley said.
CFA Operations Officer Ian Cross said about 80 members from ten CFA brigades would be participating.
"It’s an important chance for our people to familiarise ourselves with the site, and to use the specialist skills and equipment involved in our emergency response plan," he said.
Residents in the area may hear emergency sirens or see emergency vehicles with flashing lights during the exercise, which will conclude by 1pm.
While the exercise is not expected to impact local residents, the community is asked to obey any road signs or directions from emergency services as usual.
Normal emergency services will continue to be provided throughout the exercise period.
