Factory destroyed in Rowville blaze

Firefighters battled a large factory fire containing air conditioner units in Rowville early this morning (23 March).

CFA and MFB crews were called to the scene at Wellington Road just after 1am and the fire.

The 80 x 40M single storey brick factory was well alight when firefighters arrived.

District 13 Rostered Duty Officer Don Tomkins said CFA and MFB crews worked well together to control the blaze; it was interagency operations at its best.

“40 x 40M of the factory was completely destroyed and the remainder has significant damage,” he said.

"The fire was brought under control at approximately 1.20am.

“CFA crews will remain on scene for throughout the day blacking out and ensuring the fire doesn’t reignite.

“At this stage the cause is unknown, fire investigators will be on scene for an extended period of time.

“Our fire investigators will essentially be dismantling the building to determine precisely how this factory caught alight."

Breathing apparatus was in operation by fire crews and Ambulance Victoria attended for health monitoring.

9 CFA Trucks from Rowville, Scoresby, Yellingbo, Patterson River, Bayswater and Dandenong attended the incident.
