A factory is well alight on Glenville Drive, Melton this morning (13 July).

Six fire trucks and a ladder platform are on the scene, and around 30 firefighters are working to get the fire under control. The first crew arrived at 4am.

Operations Officer Jayson Hirt said firefighters had to withdraw from attacking the fire internally due to concerns with the structural integrity of the building.

"Firefighters are using a ladder platform to impact the fire from above," Mr Hirt said.

"We expect to be here until late morning."

Glenville Drive is closed, which will restrict access to surrounding factories and businesses in the area.

Workers at the factory, which produces material for horse-racing tracks, will not be able to attend the facility this morning.

A Warnings and Advice message has been issued due to smoke and road closures.
