CFA’s Annual Firefighter Memorial Service will be held on Sunday 7 May in Mount Macedon to honour the 80 firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Annual Firefighter Memorial Service is a way to pay respect to those who have fallen while serving their communities, and provides the opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to reflect and remember.

The service is held every year close to International Firefighters’ Day (St Florians Day) on 4 May - a global event started by CFA members in 1999 following the tragic death of five firefighters in Linton the previous year.

This year’s memorial service will mark the 34th event.

Family members and friends, CFA and Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) executives, as well as government representatives will come together to remember and honour the personal sacrifices and commitment firefighters make each and every day.

"The Annual Memorial Service is a time when we honour the personal sacrifices made by our firefighters, their families and colleagues," CEO Natalie MacDonald and Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said.

“We at CFA continue to adapt and evolve to deliver vital emergency services to our community and we must always remember the lessons from the past.

“We must never forget those who have died in the line of duty; forever remembered with love and respect."
