A working smoke alarm has alerted a family of four in Knowlsey to a house fire in the early hours of this morning (9 December).
Around 1.20am CFA crews responded to a vinyl-clad house on Moorabbee Road in Knowsley, which was fully alight prior to firefighters arriving.
The house was destroyed as a result of the fire.
CFA District 2 Operations Officer Andy Waterson said two adults and two children were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.
“Smoke alarms save lives – and this morning is a great example of this. The family evacuated the house before firefighters arrived,” he said.
Firefighters worked hard to protect a nearby granny flat from fire and radiant heat.
“As a result of the well-co-ordinated attack of the fire, crews have saved a granny flat,” Mr Waterson said.
“It was also very well resourced incident with local brigades attending with support from the group.”
The cause of the fire will be investigated but it is not suspicious.
Trucks from Knowsley, Junortoun, Axedale, Mosquito Creek, Mt Camel and Heathcote attended.
