Fat fire fright

Rosebud Fire Brigade held their annual Community Safety event on the Rosebud foreshore last weekend.

The event was attended by nearly a thousand people enjoying a display of Emergency vehicles, kitchen fire demonstrations, free sausage sizzle and the CFA Mobile Education Unit. There were competitions and giveaways to keep the kids and parents entertained.

It was a multi-agency event with CFA, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and the SES working together with the Mornington Peninsula Shire. The staff from the Rosebud Foreshore Camping Office were also instrumental in it being a success.

The Mayor of Rosebud was very impressed by the display and sent a big thank you to members of the public who came along and enjoyed the day.

The video demonstration attached shows the importance of not applying water to a burning pot fire of oil or fat which might occur on a typical kitchen stove. Only one cup of water is applied and it shows just how the fire will flare up and could severely burn someone or set a room alight.

Always have a fire blanket or fire extinguisher on hand to safely knock the fire down. Make sure you and the whole family are familiar with their operation and use.
