Ferntree Gully CFA opens its doors

Local residents and visitors alike will be able to discover what’s special about Ferntree Gully this Saturday (30 November), when the town hosts its third annual Village Discovery Day.

CFA is getting involved in the discovery day as part of CFA Sunday – an open day held to link communities with their local brigades and share important fire safety information ahead of summer.

The day will feature a mix of entertainment, suitable for the whole family, including ‘Open Day’ activities, street entertainers, an animal petting farm, food, plant, books and craft stalls and so much more.

“During the day, our fire station will be a hive of activity with Captain Koala visiting, a burns table and fire demonstrations, the little fire engine and helicopter for the kids and the Golden Oldies ladies singing group,” CFA Community Engagement Officer Graham Crichton said.

“We’re all looking forward to it and want to make this day a very big community engagement day.

“We are very excited to show the community our brand new 4100 litre tanker gone in service just this week and our 43 metre high ladder platform.”

But Mr Crichton said together with the fun, there was a serious message to be given to the Ferntree Gully community.

“We need to ensure everyone is aware of the importance of having fire plans in place and are aware of the dangers around their home. House fires are too easily started when walking away from a burning stove while cooking,” he said.

It’s fair to say that CFA Sunday is a great way for CFA to unite with their community throughout a very important summer period.
