Fire at Benloch

Update at 4.48pm: Firefighters have brought the Benloch fire under control. Crews are likely to remain on the ground overnight.

One aircraft and more than 20 trucks are fighting a slow-moving forest fire in Benloch, near Lancefield.

CFA crews were called to the fire at Kitchenhams Road just after 1pm which is not yet under control.

District 2 Operations Officer Chris Jacobsen said the fire was around five hectares in size and burning in a heavily forested area.

“Trees falling are causing a hazard for our firefighters so the conditions are challenging for our crews on scene,” he said.

“One house is in the path of the fire, but crews are confident of gaining the upper hand before it reaches the house.”

An Advice message for residents in the area has been issued.

Trucks from Benloch, Bolinda, Carlsruhe, Hesket, Kilmore, Kyneton, Lancefield, Newham, Nulla Vale, Pastoria, Pyalong, Romsey, Spring Hill, Tooborac and Wallan are attending. DELWP crews are also attending.
