Fire at Horsham electricity substation

A fire in a transformer at a Horsham electricity substation has cut power to parts of the community.

The fire was brought under control at 6.40pm, after 10 trucks from Dimboola, Dooen, Green Lake, Horsham, Murtoa, Vectis and Wonwondah battled the fire for an hour.

An advice warning was issued due to the smoke which was visible from some distance away.

The Western Highway was closed to all outbound traffic, while the Henty Highway was blocked

CFA's John Davies told the Wimmera Mail Times there were two fires and two buildings under threat

“The Western Highway is closed from Osbourne Road to Golf Course Road. Crews have to cart water across the highway. We also warned people about the thick black smoke in the area,” John said.

Powercor is working to restore power.
