Fire at Irymple metal recycler

A fire burning at an Irymple metal recycling plant is likely to burn into the evening (Monday 18 November).

A warning has been issued for the fire.

The fire in the yard, aproximately 50m x 50m, is burning among wrecked cars and parts.

A large amount of smoke is being generated by the fire, which is being attended to by around 10 crews.

Rostered Duty Officer Rob McNally said the initial blaze had spread to nearby grassland and crews continued to battle to contain it to the yard.

"Quick action by firefighters ensured the fire has been contained to the yard for now after a small grassfire started outside its boundary," he said.

"Due to the amount of fuel, oil, plastic and other flammable material firefighters are likely to be on scene for some time."
