Around 100 CFA brigades across Victoria will open their doors over the next few months to give the community a glimpse of the work being done by CFA members all year round.
Brigades will have a range of information available and many will conduct activities on the day, including fire training demonstrations, kids’ activities and sausage sizzles.
CFA Chief Officer Euan Ferguson said open days provided an opportunity for community members to find out how they can protect themselves, their families and properties from fire this summer.
“People keen to get involved could speak to CFA members about joining their local brigade,” he said.
“There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer with CFA that don’t just involve getting on a fire truck.”
Eleven brigades will be opening their doors in September, the first one off the rank this year is Broadwater Fire Brigade. Local residents are encouraged to come along on Sunday, 6 September to enjoy a BBQ and find out what their local brigade does for their community.
Captain Koala will be visiting a few of the open days and kids can climb on the trucks while parents listen to some interesting stories from CFA members.
Mr Ferguson said CFA Open Day was a way for the public and CFA as a whole to recognise the great work being done by CFA’s 60,000 members to protect lives and property in Victoria.
“These members work to support their community across a broad range of risk environments,” he said.
“On behalf of CFA I would like to thank all CFA members for their tireless work to keep Victorians safe.”
Open days will run until mid December.
