Fire destroys Dunkeld centre

The convention centre attached to the Royal Mail Hotel at Dunkeld was destroyed by fire early this morning.

CFA crews were called to the Parker Street property about 2:20am.

It took about an hour to control the fire, with crews remaining on scene cleaning up until 6am.

Crews from Hamilton, Victoria Valley, Dunkeld, Glenthompson and Penshurst attended.

The site is part of the larger Royal Mail Hotel, a well-known tourist attraction, and was not affected by the fire. Business will resume as usual today.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but not being treated as suspicious.
