Fire Safe Kids hits Baw Baw Shire

Schools in the Baw Baw Shire have been treated to several Fire Safe Kids sessions.

Drouin West Fire Brigade’s Fire Safe Kids presenter, Steven Bradley has been involved in the delivery of the Fire Safe Kids program with CFA for 6 months as a volunteer and has recently completed his minimum skills.

Steven presented the program in classrooms for all grades across Drouin West and Jindivick primary schools.

Other programs are being delivered all over Victoria, with Community Education and Community Engagement being a high priority focus for CFA.

Drouin West Captain Bruce Jewell was passionate about having the program delivered  and enlisted the services of Steven through a targeted recruitment campaign.

Three hundred students have enjoyed seeing the CFA vehicles and learning fire safety and awareness at the same time. Rural schools Drouin West and Jindivick Primary Schools were one of the first to take part in the program for Fire Safe Kids this year. St Paul's Anglican school prep also completed the program at the Warragul CFA.  The children have also been lucky enough to have a tour of Warragul CFA's brand new pumper.

The program was further developed by CFA’s Dawn Hartog. Dawn prepared the resources and also trained the presenters in delivering the program. The CFA Community Education has supported the program moving forward.

The program delivers important messages to the children, including home fire safety such as dialling 000 in an emergency and getting down low, as well as bushfire safety.

CFA has prioritised and supported Community Education and Community Engagement in its schedule to increase safety and provide more fire awareness within communities.

Most of the CFA members who assist in delivering the program are volunteers, who give up their time to help deliver the program and increase fire safety awareness amongst the community.

There has been a lot of positive feedback received in regards to the success of the program. We thank the CFA and its members, like Steven Bradley, who have helped in achieving this.
