Point Cook, Parwan and Dartmouth have taken out the brigade prizes after 13,000 Victorians took the Fire Safety Pledge during the eight-week competition.
Point Cook Fire Brigade Treasurer Phil Krajewski put the large number of pledges assigned to their brigade down to sound community connections.
“We’ve got a partnership going with the local real estate agents so we arranged to have a couple of large signs erected around town promoting the competition,” Phil said. “We handed out some fliers at the local BBQ and in addition to posting on our own Facebook page, we posted it into the broader ‘Point Cook Residents’ Community page which really kicked our tally along.”
In the ‘Per-capita’ category, a tight battle saw Parwan edge out a fast-finishing Eynesbury as well as Tallarook in the category comparing the respective population that each brigade serves. Dartmouth in CFA’s District 24 took out the ‘Population under 100’ category after a great battle with neighbouring brigade Nariel Valley. That effort saw the two brigades compile a very impressive 450 pledges between them.
Five lucky members of the public who took the pledge will be celebrating this Christmas after collecting a $200 Bunnings voucher. Winnners were contacted via email after the draw on Wednesday.
The competition, run as a pilot, in 2015 produced the following pleasing statistics:
- 779 different CFA brigades have had at least one pledge assigned to them
- 14 brigades had over 100 pledges assigned to them
- 95 per cent of those taking the pledge selected to subscribe to further information through CFA’s important MyCFA email campaigns
- There were over 40,000 sessions (visit of more than 0.15 seconds) to the Fire Safety Pledge website during the competition period with an average stay of 2.37 minutes.
