Upon completion of their assignments, students received an educational gift, rewarding the for their efforts.
Fire home safety has been the theme for the Cardinia Shire community, with a new program targeting primary school aged children in the area now complete.
The project commenced in late May and finished this month, reaching more than 822 families thanks to the efforts of CFA brigades and Cardinia Shire.
There was a huge uptake from local schools, with Kurran Primary, Bayles Primary, Bunyip Primary, Cockatoo Primary, Koo Wee Rup Primary, St John Baptist Primary, Maranatha Christian College, Nar Nar Goon Primary, Lang Lang Primary, St Brigid Catholic, Gembrook Primary and Upper Beaconsfield Primary all involved.
To complete the program, students were asked to confirm that they had a working and tested smoke alarm and had to complete a home fire escape plan in each of their homes.
Once the school cohort had completed the assignments, students received an educational gift. It was the amazing local volunteer brigades who attended each school to hand out these backpacks, and continue their fire safety education with a bit of fun with their truck and hoses.
Cardinia Group Community Safety Coordinator and Brigade Support Officer Lisa Hicks would like to say a huge thank you to all participating schools, and of course the volunteers who attended after completion, to give the students a session on the hose and for making the day a huge success.
"We now have 822 more families in Cardinia that have a home fire escape plan and working tested smoke detector," she said.
"Well done everyone."
