Firefighters' Memorial at Fiskville

A message from myself and Chief Officer Euan Ferguson

As we begin to plan our next steps following the closure of Fiskville, one of our priorities will be to find a new location for the Firefighters’ Memorial.

The Firefighters’ Memorial at Fiskville is an important part of CFA’s history and culture, and represents a place where we honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities. We owe it to those who have died in the line of duty to find a peaceful place where loved ones can reflect and remember.

Over the next few weeks we will be engaging with the families and brigades of our fallen colleagues to ensure that we get their thoughts on the most appropriate location and take the time to consider their suggestions. Our focus will be to ensure that this process is done respectfully and sensitively, and in consultation with our people.

This year our annual memorial service will be held at Ballarat at 2pm, May 3, in St Patrick’s Cathedral on Lyons Street South. We urge you to attend, where possible, to honour the members who have lost their lives to protect their communities.

We will continue to provide you with further updates over the coming weeks.

Regards,

Michael Wootten, CEO                      Euan Ferguson, Chief Officer
