Fireys contain Benalla house fire

CFA firefighters have helped to contain the spread of fire in a house at Benalla this afternoon.

Benalla Fire Brigade members were called to attend the Ballintine Street property shortly before 2pm.

CFA Duty Officer Terry Heafield said crews arrived to find the fire had quickly spread from a bedroom into the roof space.

“It was a good effort by firefighters to contain the fire’s spread to one end of the house,” he said.

“They’ve managed to bring it under control within 30 minutes.

“Firefighters’ quick efforts also stopped flames from reaching a wooden pergola next door.

“Unfortunately the fire has damaged around half the home, with heat and smoke damage throughout the rest.”

No one was home at the time.

A fire investigator will attend tomorrow to help determine the cause of the blaze which is being treated as suspicious.
