Firefighters were called to reports of a shed fire in Diggers rest just after 2pm on Friday.

Members of the Diggers Rest brigade were out helping SES with clearing trees from roads, when the call came in.

Upon arrival, they found a large mechanics shed, approximately 3m x 20m, fully involved, prompting an escalation in response.

In total, seven CFA trucks and volunteer firefighters from Diggers Rest, Bulla, Sunbury, Toolern Vale, Mernda and Gisborne responded to the fire, supported by the Mernda rehab van, Bayswater Breathing Apparatus van, other CFA support vehicles and personnel, and by Fire Rescue Victoria.

Due to the lack of water in the area, some of the additional tankers relayed water from a hydrant several hundred meters away.

After an aggressive firefight, firefighters brought the fire under control while preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding structures and nearby grassland.

Ambulance Victoria, working with Mernda CFA's Rehab, also monitored the health of firefighters on scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and being investigated.
