Volunteer firefighters who participated in Movember have helped CFA place inside the top ten fundraisers for this year’s First Responder Challenge.
Teams and individuals across the state rose to the challenge of growing their facial hair or run/walk 60km during the month of November in support of men’s health.
A total of $23,471 has been raised by CFA participants so far, with more donations still coming in to support men’s mental and physical health.
CFA Acting CEO Cath Greaves congratulated all the teams, brigades, and individuals who signed up this year.
“It’s great to see a month of light-hearted fun, with so many CFA members growing moustaches and getting active for Movember,” said A/CEO Greaves.
“And if a little bit of friendly rivalry with our emergency service partners for the First Responder Challenge also helps boost the fundraising totals, that’s a win for everyone.”
Among the top fundraising teams for CFA were groups of firefighters from the Shepparton, Officer, and Langwarrin areas.
Chris Bethell finished the month atop the individual leader board meanwhile, with his $7,680 going towards the overall tally for the Shepparton Firies team which he led.
A/CEO Greaves said it was great to see so many members getting involved, but it’s also important to remember the importance of the Movember cause.
“It’s been a difficult year for so many people and of course that includes many of our CFA members.”
“Movember provides a real and welcome opportunity for our volunteers to talk about the mental and physical health of themselves, their fathers, sons, or friends.”
