Followship to Leadership (F2L) is an introductory leadership training course that was developed in 2014 as a pilot by Leadership instructor Jamie Mackenzie and coordinated through the District Volunteer Coordinators in South West. The 2015 course was delivered at the Cape Bridgewater Coastal Camp in District 4 on the weekend.
The concept was to offer an opportunity for brigade members to develop leadership skills relevant to a variety of brigade roles and functions, aligned with the approach used in Fireline Leadership. The training course is delivered as a self-assessment opportunity for individuals, incorporating interactive theory components and group activities.

- Leadership in Action- The After Action Review
- Putting it in Practice
- CFA Values
The objectives of the program are to provide:
- New skills in leadership
- Greater understanding of leadership styles
- Build self confidence
- Relationship building/networking
- Support current CFA roles
- To have a greater understanding of opportunities for CFA volunteers
Jamie Mackenzie (AFSM), Senior Instructor for Leadership Development is the program coordinator and delivered the program on the weekend. Gary Harker (AFSM), Ian Hamley and Mark Gunning were also on hand to assist with facilitating the program and will become part of our pool of local instructors. Elisha Buffone - Wellbeing Support Officer was also there to update us on the latest wellbeing sessions that are available to brigades and to give examples of how these sessions are delivered. This included information about how to become a Peer Support person in CFA.
Our team provided a great deal of knowledge and experience that participants could draw from.
There were 21 volunteers in attendance of these 6 were male and 15 females in total representing 13 brigades from across the South West Region. Most participants were relatively new to CFA and very enthusiastic and eager to learn.
Despite the miserable weather – all in all it was a great weekend!
