Geelong City Fire Brigade raised $2000 for The Mark West Foundation through a charity T20 match last weekend.
The foundation aims to provide a way for young people in Geelong to play Australian Rules football who would otherwise be bound by financial difficulty.
It builds on the legacy of Mark West, who in 1998, at the age of 19, died as a result of a tragic on-field accident playing football.
Funds were raised through food including a barbecue, a range of drinks as well as through a raffle.
Geelong City firefighter Rob Byrne said the day was a major success.
“The game was played in great spirits although I don’t think anyone in the Australian cricket team would be worried about losing their place,” he said.
“There are a few guys who were a bit stiff on Monday and one firefighter who had a self-inflicted cut on his eye from bowling a bouncer to himself.”
