Get moving challenge on again in 2015

The Get Moving Challenge is happening again for CFA members in 2015, but this time it will be teams tallying their step count to vie for the highest combined total in the state.

All CFA volunteers and staff are encouraged to join the eight-week competition that challenges members to take the maximum possible number of steps each day to improve fitness and wellbeing.

For those who remember last year's event, there will be a few changes. Each individual will again receive a CFA pedometer and drink bottle to get started, but the competition results will be based on total steps, rather than weight loss, and on the achievement of the whole team.

Teagan Knight from CFA’s Healthwatch program said five to ten people could get together to form a team.

“The new format for the competition is great because you will have a team of people supporting you along the way,” she said.

“All the step totals of your entire team across the eight weeks contribute to the final tallies, and teams will go into the running for major prizes – last year we had some very generous sponsors who contributed to those. ”

“So start thinking about your teams now because places will be limited and September is not too far away!”

Tegan said reaching 10,000 steps per day could considerably improve a person’s fitness levels, which in turn led to better health.

“It is easier than you think to reach the goal – walking to work or walking on your lunch break can boost your steps and it all adds up,” she said.

The Get Moving Challenge runs from Monday 28 September to Sunday 22 November 2015. Registration opens on Monday 7 September and closes on Sunday 20 September.

Nearly 700 volunteer and staff members completed the pilot competition in 2014.
