Get Moving registrations are open

Registrations for the 2015 Get Moving Challenge are now open!

Teams of five to 10 people can register to compete against other CFA teams from all over Victoria, aiming to increase physical activity levels and take the highest number of steps each day for eight weeks. The challenge encourages participants to motivate their teammates to take more steps and compete for a range of prizes, while increasing physical health and fitness.

Walking is a great way to increase health and fitness. Not only does it decrease your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, weight gain and some cancers, walking has also been found to increase bone strength, balance, heart and lung health, immunity and muscular power. Plus, it's easy and free!

Each registered team member will receive a pedometer, drink bottle and an individual step log poster to record their daily steps from the pedometer, with helpful tips to achieve step goals. Every team will also receive a poster to record their team members’ weekly and total steps to see who is taking the most steps.

Team captains will be responsible for receiving their team members’ weekly step counts, recording them and submiting them. The top teams will appear on a leader board each week and there are prizes for teams that take the most steps (on average, depending on team participant numbers) over the competition.

There are also weekly challenges during the competition to further encourage a healthy lifestyle, such as nutrition, fresh air and sleep. Information on the weekly challenge will be emailed to participants at the beginning of each week. Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the individuals and the team who complete the most steps throughout the 8 week competition. For teams the number of steps will be averaged based on the number of team members. Additional prizes are up for grabs for random entrants who participate in the weekly challenges.

Registrations for the Get Moving Challenge are open until Sunday 20 September, and the competition runs from Monday 28 September until Sunday 22 November. But get in quick because places are limited!

Here's how to register:

  1. Organise a team of 5-10 CFA members
  2. Nominate a team captain and team name
  3. Enter all team participants’ names and email addresses (plus team captain’s phone number) via this link http://esohealthwatch.gov.au/content/get-moving-registration-form between 7 and 20 September
  4. Wait for a confirmation email and more details
