Getting ready for summer in the rain

Murrayville and Border Group held their annual group exercise on Sunday, 16 October. The skies were grey with rain falling constantly, but members remained positive to maximize the training opportunity.

The day revolved around five key scenarios/drills:

- Hazmat awareness and identification
- Pumping and drafting
- Burn-over crew protection
- Radio procedure
- Breathing apparatus (for accredited operators)

The day incorporated community safety and an update/preseason briefing conducted by Community Education Coordinator Kevin Sleep, with attendees appreciating Kevin’s effort and the informative discussion.

A highlight of the day was the level of participation of Murrayville and Cowangie volunteers, and the sensational BBQ lunch - cooks ‘Bill and Bob’ turned on a wholesome spread.

Communications were managed via the Murrayville local command facility, with ‘Megs and her team’ ensuring all radio traffic followed correct protocol.

A big thank you to Group Officer Trevor ‘Bluey’ Wyatt, Group Community Safety Coordinator Peter Willersdorf, Murrayville Captain Dave ‘Nudge’ Allan and their team for coordinating the exercise.
