‘Getting the people bit right’

There’s been a great response to the start of the 2015 Wellbeing Survey, with more than 400 members taking part within its first two weeks.

And there’s still time to take part.

The survey is a chance to find out what you think of the mental health and wellbeing support services available, and how they can be improved.

Assistant Chief Officer for West Region Peter O’Keefe said: “CFA is very responsive when dealing with emergencies. We are often reactive and busy doing many things that sometimes we forget we are dealing with people and their emotions.  Whether we are focusing on the restructure or fire season preparation, we often leave little time to focus on our own wellbeing.

“The wellbeing survey provides an opportunity for feedback, how we can improve on what we do, how we can better support our members.  People might say, ‘not another survey’, but wellbeing is a pretty important space.  Why? Because you readily can’t see it.  If someone breaks a leg you can see it, you can offer them support as it heals but if someone isn’t travelling well, you might not necessarily pick up on it.”

Peter said the survey was a chance for all CFA members to make a difference.

“This is an opportunity to have your say; to support genuine respect for each other, it is about supporting our people.  If the people bit is right, everything else will be right.”

The survey runs until 20 December this year and can be found here.  Please call CFA’s wellbeing intake line on (03) 9262 8409 if you would like more information or to request a paper version of the survey.
