Have you got a great idea about how to engage your local community on summer fire safety? And do you need funding to help kick start your initiative?
CFA brigades, districts and regions can apply now for one-off funding as part of a Summer Fire Safety Local Initiatives Programme.
This funding can be used to help members engage with their communities about bushfire and grassfire safety. External businesses, groups, organisations and service providers are also encouraged to apply for funding.
“Our members talk with their communities every day and they already have many things planned for summer, including opening their doors for CFA Open Day, stands at the local farmers markets or field days, as well as running Fire Ready Victoria meetings and other fire safety information sessions and workshops” said Mark Sullivan, Executive Director Communication & Legal Services.
“We want to provide extra support for these local education and engagement activities and then evaluate them to see where the best value for our efforts might be” he said.
Priority will be given to projects and initiatives that build and empower community leadership and develop awareness, shared responsibility and self-reliance to ultimately strengthen the resilience of Victorian communities.
Projects and initiatives that will be prioritised for funding include those that:
- target high-risk areas, and/or high risk vulnerable groups
- increase connections with community leaders
- are community-led or driven
- are done in partnership with other stakeholders (tourism operators, business, CALD groups/support services)
- target travellers to or through high-risk areas
- encourage the community (target audience) to:
- understand their bushfire and/or grassfire risk and what they need to do in response to fire threat
- undertake planning, preparation and actions to reduce their risk
- know when, and be prepared, to leave
- check Fire Danger Ratings daily over summer
- know where to go for more information
Applications to develop and implement projects and initiatives that incorporate a broader focus, such as heat health are also strongly encouraged.
