CFA volunteers have assisted Forest Fire Management Victoria with a couple of recent burns and have come away with excellent stories of cooperation and camaraderie.
Forrest Brigade Captain, Allan Winter, took a crew to last week’s burn at Barwon Downs. He sees a great deal of practical use coming from working with Forest Fire Management Victoria and is eager to see the relationship continue to strengthen.
“The sense of cooperation between everyone was excellent”, Allan said.
“It was a relaxed environment where there was time for everyone to socialise and get to know each other better.
“It also provided a great opportunity to get new recruits out and spend a bit of one on one time with them, preparing them for the season”, he said.
Forest Fire Management Victoria completed two planned burns in District 7 last week at Anglesea and Barwon Downs.
“These important burns were achieved with the help of local CFA members at both locations demonstrating our strong partnership with local brigades and how we work together to protect our communities”, Forest Fire Management Otway District Manager, David Rourke said.
“Having local brigade members help conduct these burns provides a great training opportunity with members integrated into lighting and patrol crews with Forest Fire Management Firefighters”, Mr Rourke said.
Mr Rourke welcomed the attendance and participation of local CFA brigade members at all planned burns.
Forest Fire Management Victoria is the new branding for DELWP and Parks Victoria forest fire fighters.
