Guildford Awards Night

Members from all around Newstead Group came along to support the awarding of medals to the Guildford Fire Brigade on Friday 14 August at the Guildford Public Hall.  Awards were presented by CFA Board Member Michael Tudball supported by Operations Officer Craig Brittain.

A National Medal was awarded to Newstead Group Officer and Brigade Life Member Shane Scoble.  Shane joined the brigade in 1983 and worked his way through most of the brigade roles including captain.  As Group Officer Shane regularly supports his volunteers ensuring they have all the training and equipment they require and mentors members entering new roles.  True to form Shane is also humble about his involvement in his CFA activities, the long list including Sector Commander, Group Officer, firefighter and brigade member.

Of Shane ex-captain Ray Pattle commented “It is impossible to envisage how any individual can contribute any more of themselves to ensure the safety of their community.”

A posthumous National Emergency Medal (NEM) was presented for Mark Davis who sadly passed away in 2010.  His children Jessica and Justin Davis graciously accepted the award on behalf of their father for his service in the 2009 fires in support of the communities of Redesdale and Muskvale.  Captain Jim Norris spoke of their continued sadness of the loss of their great mate.

Service awards ranging from 5 years to 20 years were also presented with certificates for Bushfire Firefighter for their newest members.

A great night was had by all with some fabulous food and sharing of great memories.
