Hamilton hosts MFB riders

For well over ten years, Hamilton Fire Brigade has hosted the MFB’s Murray to Moyne Team on the first leg of the big race.

Coming from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, the MFB riders start their journey in Echuca and ride to Hamilton on the Saturday, arriving somewhere between ten thirty and eleven thirty in the evening depending on the weather conditions. As Hamilton is bursting with riders and support crews from all over Victoria the MFB Team had very limited opportunities to find accommodation.

The MFB team contacted Hamilton Fire Brigade and, seeing as a good opportunity to build some friendships between  CFA and MFB and help out fellow firies, Hamilton Fire Brigade was only too willing to help out and host the team.

Hamilton Captain Malcolm Anderson said, “The brigade is very happy to offer the station as a rest stop for the MFB Team over night. This is a great opportunity to create a relationship with the MFB members by providing a warm and somewhat familiar place for the team to rest. The team has had a big day, helping raise funds for a worthy cause and are quite weary when they arrive at the Hamilton station.”

With a handful of Hamilton brigade members on hand every year to help the MFB Team settle in and store away their gear for the evening, the tired but always entertaining MFB crew relax and “rehydrate” for the final leg into Port Fairy on Sunday morning.
