Harcourt captain receives a local Australia Award

We all know that Mount Alexander catchment is full of great brigade members doing marvellous things, but now some of them have the awards to prove it.

Mount Alexander Shire presented their Australia Day Awards and a brigade member was among the worthy recipients.

Dorothy Smith from Metcalfe Fire Brigade had the honour of being awarded the Senior Citizen of the Year. Dorothy was the brigade's ommunications officer for 17 years, ran the local post office and participated in various fundraising and community activities throughout her years in Metcalfe. Dorothy is still a proud member of the brigade always willing to support the brigade whenever she can.

Harcourt & District Lions Club also presented Australia Day Awards for community champions at their annual breakfast. Harcourt Captain Tyrone Rice was presented with the Community Member of the Year award. It is awarded to a local living in Harcourt area which extends across to Sutton Grange and down to Elphinstone and Taradale. Not only is Tyrone a busy captain and firefighter he is also active in Community Safety for his brigade. Tyrone attended the Community Safety forum in Lorne last year and can often be found spruiking safety messages around the town.

Congratulations to all the award winners and all our brigade members doing a fantastic job.
