Have your say on a new Firefighters' Memorial

CFA members can have their say on a new Firefighters' Memorial, with an online survey now open.

The Firefighters' Memorial recognises the 67 CFA members and the 11 Bushfire Brigades’ firefighters who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the community.

The CFA Board’s unanimous decision to close the Fiskville Training College, after receiving expert safety advice, means the current Memorial is no longer accessible.

CEO Michael Wootten said the survey was part of a wider consultation process that would play a major role in designing a new Memorial.

“We want your ideas for a Memorial. What sort of design elements should it include? What building materials do you want used? Where should it be located?” Mr Wootten said.

“It’s important for us to know the wishes and concerns of affected families and Brigades. We want a design that honours those who have lost their lives during service, as well as one that reflects the sacrifices their loved ones have endured.

“We are also speaking with the broader CFA community about the Memorial.”

Three experienced volunteers, backed by a project team, are travelling across the state and meeting with families and Brigades who have lost members.

“The Fiskville Memorial will be treated with respect and sensitivity. We will be using the feedback and ideas to help shape the Memorial’s design,” Mr Wootten said.

The online survey can be found here and ends at 11.59pm on Friday, 2 October 2015.
