Highton house gutted by fire

Firefighters have battled a two-storey house fire in the Geelong suburb of Highton this morning.

CFA was called to the Triumph Ct home at 8.38am and quickly deemed all four occupants accounted for.

No one was home at the time the fire broke out.

CFA Operations Officer Mark Sinkinson said the size of the brick building was substantial.

“It was an aggressive fire due to the scale of the property,” he said.

“Three crews wearing breathing apparatus worked to gain entry to the ground floor while the ladder platform pumped water onto the second story.

“Unfortunately the home has been gutted.”

The fire was brought under control at 9.48am.

Paramedics were also called to check over a firefighter who received minor burns to his hands during the fire fight.

Five crews attended from Highton, Geelong and Belmont, including breathing apparatus support from Corio.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.
