Home fire safety to the wider community

Staff and volunteers from Morwell Fire Station have been delivering a series of home fire safety presentations to members of Gippsland's multicultural community.

Morwell Fire Station staff and volunteers have commenced a series of Home Fire Safety presentations for members of our multicultural community this week. With the assistance of Gippsland Multicultural Services staff community groups have been invited to attend the station and participate in a presentation highlighting the dangers present around the home especially at this time of the year. The focus is on smoke alarms, kitchen safety and first aid for pot on stove fires and safety around heaters. The discussion has been lively and informative and the practical demonstrations are well received. Gippsland Multicultural Service has provided interpreters where required to ensure that everyone is able to participate.

The future of this program is to present to these groups and others within the Morwell area twice a year creating a strong relationship between the communities and the brigade and increasing fire safety knowledge amongst vulnerable members of the Morwell area. In a couple of months we will present the summer program focussing on bushfire safety, preparing the home for summer and where to get information if a fire does occur. We look forward to seeing the benefits of these programs through a safer, better informed community.
