CFA crews have contained a hazardous gas leak at Mt Evelyn after a house collapsed and ruptured a gas line overnight.
Four trucks were called to the incident on Currajong Avenue about 2:30am, Friday 2 May.
District 13 Operations Officer Colin Brown said it appeared the house had been jacked up for re-stumping when it slipped and fell on to the gas line.
“The residents were awoken by a sudden jolt and managed to get out of the house safely,” Mr Brown said.
CFA issued an Advice Message at 4.30am advising Mt Evelyn residents to stay indoors due to a hazardous gas leak in the area.
An excavator was brought in to dig up the line and firefighters ensured the area was cleared while assisting the gas company to isolate the leak.
The incident was under control at about 7:10am.
Two residents were treated at the scene for gas inhalation but there were no injuries.
An all-clear Advice message was issued at 7:50am.
CFA crews from Mt Evelyn and Montrose attended the incident.
