Victoria Police today (17 October) confirmed a person had died at a Rosebrook house destroyed by fire on Friday night (16 October).

CFA was called to a house fire in Lydiard Street, Rosebrook, just after 9pm Friday night (16 October).

Tankers from Kirkstall, Koroit, Port Fairy, St Helens, Warrnambool, Toolong and Tambuk responded, along with a Warrnambool Hazmat vehicle, Port Fairy pumper and Tambuk Big Fill and other support vehicles.

Commander Paul Turner said a blue stone house measuring approximately 40 by 25 metres was fully alight when crews arrived and was completely destroyed in the fire.

He said crews did a great job supplying water from a nearby river.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the house and undertook internal firefighting.

The house fire was brought under control just after midnight, with firefighters expected to remain on the scene for some time.

CFA was supported at the incident by Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and SES.

The Princes Highway was closed to traffic while firefighters brought the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
