House fire in Upper Ferntree Gully

At 5.30pm this evening (22 August) CFA crews were called to the scene of a house fire on Salisbury Street, Upper Ferntree Gully.

Crews arrived to find the split level house well alight with smoke billowing from the roof.

An advice message was issued for Ferntree Gully, Ferny Creek, Tremont, Upper Ferntree Gully and Upwey due to large amounts of smoke in the area.

CFA Rostered Duty Officer Tim Holland said the owners of the house were home at the time and we’re able to self-evacuate before crews arrived.

“The fire has gone all through the roof and has caused extensive damage to the house,” said Tim.

“Crews did a good job to get the fire under control quickly and they will remain on scene for some time to ensure the area is safe .”

The fire was called under control just after 6pm.

Police and Ambulance also attended the fire.

Further enquiries will be made into the possible cause.

Ten trucks from Bayswater, Upwey, Upper Ferntree Gully, Boronia and Ferntree Gully attended the incident.
