A unit fire in Wangaratta on Wednesday 8 July saw a rescue of a different kind. Two cats were rescued by passers-by but one more was found in the unit by firefighters.
Leo was found on the bed and given to volunteer firefighter Stuart Batey who carried the unconscious cat to the nature strip where Qualified Firefighter Garth Lilley and Stuart successfully resuscitated Leo with the oxygen equipment of the brigade pumper.
The unit was damaged by the fire but all three cats will live to fight another day. I quess you could say cats do have nine lives.
