Koroit Fire Brigade has received a thermal imaging camera (TIC) thanks to funding from Moyne Shire Council and Koroit Lions Club.
The device will be a valuable asset to the brigade as it can detect hot spots in fires and assist with hazmat incidents and search and rescues.
Koroit Captain Leigh Mugavin said the device will not only be a vital resource to the brigade and community, but will also provide assistance to other brigades across the district.
“We have been campaigning for a long time for this piece of equipment and are thankful to both the Koroit Lions Club and the municipality for their assistance in funding,” he said.
“The device will be an essential tool for the brigade and the community of Koroit, with first response to fires and other incidents.”
Moyne Shire provided over $6,000 towards the purchase of the costly piece of equipment through its Community Assistance Fund.
Moyne Shire Mayor, Councillor Jim Doukas, said the fund aims to build stronger and safer communities within the Shire.
“Council aims to assist community groups and encourage them to work in partnership with council to provide services that benefit our whole community,” he said.
“We are happy to provide support to Koroit Fire Brigade to help them secure the thermal imaging camera.”
The brigade currently has nine members trained as operators of the camera, with additional training scheduled next month for more members to attain the required competency.
