Kyneton Group Exercise 2013

The Kyneton Group of Fire Brigades recently held their group exercise in the Carlsruhe area in Central Victoria. The exercise focussed on core firefighting skills for newer or less experienced members and for those needing to brush up on basic skills.

The exercise had three "stands" being:

  • Grassfire theory and practice
  • Dry Firefighting theory and techniques
  • Demonstration of the new Malmsbury "Bigfill" and Draughting practice

Over 50 members from all the groups brigades including Carlsruhe, Pastoria, Benloch, Spring Hill, Tylden, Kyneton and Malmsbury attended and was followed with a Barbecue and debrief hosted by Carlsruhe fire brigade.

Group Officer John PEARCE thanked all those attending, Carlsruhe Brigade, Benloch Captain Vince CAFARI, member Carl GISBSON and DGO's THOMSON and STEPHENS for organising the day.

The exercise will be followed next Wednesday by a Crew Leaders and Officers night focussing on group arrangements for the upcoming fire season, a talk on dangerous trees and a desktop discussion titled "the First 30 Minutes".

Group officer PEARCE said: "We see it important to give members a chance to brush up on basic skills prior to the fire season and follow it up with crew leaders and officers night so they are across our arrangements for the fire season, how our LCF will operate and what we expect in that first 30 minutes of a going fire. We also want to improve our safety awareness around dangerous trees"
