Ladies SAFE Night Out

A fun night out for ladies was recently held at Kongwak Fire Brigade.

Captain Ross Olden initiated what was a very successfull night for members of the local community and surrounding area. The night involved a short presentation about home fire safety by Ross and some female volunteer members.

This generated plenty of discussion and was a great engagement opportunity for approximately 30 local women. There was then a practical demonstration with a small stove fire and the correct use of a fire blanket along with some other small fires in drums and hands-on extinguisher use. The women enthusiastically participated in all aspects of these demonstrations.

Ross explained, "I wanted to provide a non-confrontational environment for ladies to come along and understand the use of these extinguishers and the importance in these rural areas of having one in your home and vehicle,"

The night was complemented by local wine and cheese tastings which provided a casual environment for further discussions. Requests to expand this to other brigades' areas is being discussed.

Well done Ross!
