Large grass and scrub fire in Woodside

CFA crews were called to a large grass and scrub fire in Woodside this afternoon (15 Nov).

The fire was called under control shortly before 3.30pm.

District 27 Operations Officer Emma Conway said ground crews are working to contain the fires edge.

“There are still a few active pockets within the fires edge,” said Ms Conway.

“The fire is approximately 10 hectares in size.

“The firefight included the assistance of air attack. Water Bombers released 5-6 loads of water on the fire.

“Police are in attendance assisting with traffic control. At this stage the South Gippsland Highway is still closed.

“The fire was started by a tractor on private property whilst baling hay.

“Current losses include a tractor, shed and haystack."

16 CFA vehicles from Alberton West, Binginwarri, Carrajung, Devon North, Giffard West, Jack River, Longford, Port Albert, Seaspray, Stradbroke, Tarra, Won Wron, Woodside, Woranga and Yarram are in attendance.
